Design of Gala.co.uk

So, let’s start with the way this site looks: something between a nursery and a branch of Ikea or McDonalds. The yellow and blue design and the childish design elements might be appealing if your development was arrested somewhere in 1993, but please- there are so many well designed online casinos and bingo rooms out there, surely you can nick the design from someone else and spare us this circus of the eyes. Children aren’t allowed to gamble and surely would not opt for BINGO if they were allowed to, so why would you design a bingo site that looks like the set of The Muppets? Oh, and did I mention the pictures of the happy winners running on a banner on the bottom of the homepage? Hardly appetizing either.

Onwards. Scrolling down the screen, a menu appears on top, with tempting buttons like ‘Bingo’, ‘Vegas’, ‘Slots’ and more. Sadly, none of these buttons work, and the menu quickly disappears when you scroll down some more, replaced by a ticker that doesn’t really work or provide any real information.

Left with the only option that actually worked, I decided to ‘Join Now’, meeting another nauseating screen of pink, blue and yellow. At least this page worked, and was fairly simple and straightforward, so that the site’s elderly clientele (or their 5 year old grandchildren) could easily get by with completing the signup process while maybe being spared its appearance thanks to their failing eyesight.

I decided to opt out at this point. Call me picky, but I like the casinos that make an attempt to look respectful and luxurious, and there is no lack of these out there. Remember that the online casinos are just trying to mimic the real life luxury of Vegas or even Monte Carlo, so let’s put some more effort into the design and treat our customers with respect, shall we? There is no reason to use a site that looks and functions like this, not in 2013, with all the great alternatives just a click away.
